Yeah, I gotta admit I'm not crazy about the latest issue of X-Factor. That's some seriously hideous artwork there. D:

The story is okay, I guess, but I've never been a fan of spoilers and whatnot )

Geez, why don't I have a Multiple Man or X-Factor icon!? I need to fix that pronto.

“I’m really looking forward to taking Tony on this redemptive arc, where instead of just buying back good favor he earns it back. He’s got some blood on his hands both literally and figuratively. He’s made a lot of right moves and a lot of wrong moves and he’s got a lot of amends to make. I’m looking forward to Tony, the man, becoming a stand up guy again. I’m going to grind him down into the dirt and smash him like a car compactor. He’ll be put through a crucible and we’ll see, when you destroy everything he is, when you take everything away, what’s left? Who is the man left standing? Is he somebody with a life worth living? Someone worth admiring? Someone worth reading about?”

- Matt Fraction, on Invincible Iron Man

Just read this quote, and oh god yes please. This is exactly how I feel, so I'm super excited about seeing where this goes. I think Tony does need to be redeemed, but not in a lame "Oh we can't have Iron Man look like a fascist anymore" way or a way that cheapens what he has gone through or why he did what he did.

He needs to be completely broken down to his essential parts - as I talked about in my last post, it's the only way to get through to him at this point. He's built up a (metaphorical) armor, so he doesn't have to face himself anymore... but with a character like Tony, he's at his most interesting when he's forced to face himself. It's kind of why I'm so into him.

So I'm hoping Fraction follows through on this. We'll see.

Oh, and Ezekiel Stane has an enormous fucking crush on Tony. It's hilarious. Too bad he's a sociopath.

So I've pretty much dropped every fandom other than comics.

I didn't intend to get to the point where I'm reading 25+ comics a month, but... it just sort of happened.

self-indulgent tl;dr about comics and me; a few minor spoilers )

So, yes, I am currently reading the following ongoings:

Iron Man: Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Uncanny X-Men
Wolverine (I liked the last arc, but I'm kind of meh on the current one.)
X-Men: First Class (This comic is so fucking cute it kills me.)
Wolverine: First Class
Invincible Iron Man
Logan
Secret Invasion, Secret Invasion: Frontline, etc.
Mighty Avengers
New Avengers
Incredible Hercules (as of this week)
Astonishing X-Men (as of this week)
Ms. Marvel
X-Force
X-Factor (I'm pretty much in love with Jamie.)
Young X-Men (I have Theories about this one, but that ties into my Secret Invasion thoughts.)

And the comics I am backreading right now are Marvel Adventures: The Avengers, Astonishing X-Men, and Ms. Marvel.

Oh, and I have a new Iron Man icon. For the lulz, mostly. Gotta love the original Iron Man suit.

I've been reading lots of comics lately. The big problem with this, though, is that I finish a series and then I realize I can't get the next issue for a month! Then, of course, I need to start a new series. I can see this getting out of hand. :D:

I'm not sure why people are so confused about why James was supporting Sirius and Lily and not Remus. He wasn't married to Remus, guys. Don't be silly.

I have just a couple things to say re: the Dumbledore is gay drama.

1) Old people are allowed to have sexual orientations. It's not like she gave explicit details on his sex life. Hell, old people are even allowed to have sex drives, masturbate and have sex, believe it or not. After all, they are people. You don't have to think about it if you don't want to. Maybe they don't want to think about you having sex either.

On that note, Dumbledore was NOT born old. He was a (rather attractive) teenager once.

2) I am definitely not a Remus/Sirius shipper, and I would be extremely surprised if JKR said that Remus and Sirius were together. However, you know what I would not do? Go around whining about how JKR could dare say that and not "admit" that Sirius really loved James. Maybe she didn't admit that Sirius and Remus were together because they weren't together.

Seriously, can't you let the people who wanted Dumbledore to be gay enjoy their moment, without grumbling about how it should have been your moment? Talk about entitled.

(And, yes, I know not all Remus/Sirius shippers are doing this. I'm only talking to the ones who are.)

3) JKR did not say this because she is mocking you. Talk about fucking paranoid.

"Dumbledore is gay, actually," replied Rowling as the audience errupted in surprise. She added that, in her mind, Dumbledore had an unrequited love affair with Gellert Grindelwald, Voldemort's predecessor who appears in the seventh book. After several minutes of prolonged shouting and clapping from astonshed fans, Rowling added. "I would have told you earlier if I knew it would make you so happy."

I CAN'T EVEN PUT INTO WORDS HOW I FEEL RIGHT NOW.

EXCEPT THAT IT WAS NOT AN UNREQUITED LOVE AFFAIR, OKAY!!! AND I EXPECT LOTS OF GELLERT/ALBUS SLASH NOVELS!!

Okay, picture this:

You come across this Korean pop band. They're funny and silly and kind of ridiculous. You like them, or at least find them amusing. You enjoy seeing picspams of them, and watching vids if somebody links them. It's okay, though, because it's not like you're seriously into them. You can't even tell them apart!

It goes on like this for awhile (or at least you delude yourself into believing it), and then one day, you stay up all night watching vids and clips and shows of them on YouTube, and you might even read a little bit of fic, and you watch their movie multiple times, and all of a sudden you come to a realization: "My love for Super Junior is completely unironic."

It could happen to anyone.

For fuck's sake, will people stop saying that JKR contradicted herself about Ron's profession? She made it perfectly clear that he worked with George after school and then became an Auror. Most people have more than one job in their lifetime, you know.

EDIT: And Ariana was not a Squib! The whole point was that she was NOT a Squib. Arrrrrgh. >:(

This is my new favorite fic. Sirius/James, NC-17, by [info]kabeyk. Amazing.

It's late/early enough that I am also tempted to go off on a long and possibly a bit angsty tangent on why I love it and how I relate to it, but I don't think I will.

I really love best friend slash. It's weird. I think most of my favorite ships are BFFs. Sirius/James, Xena/Gabrielle, Lilly/Veronica, Sugar/Kim, Harry/Ron/Hermione. I know a lot of people don't like bff ships. The reasons are usually that it's boring (NO U) or that they find codependence scary and not hot. But. I find codependence hot.

WHICH REMINDS ME. The reason I found that fic was that I read a fic by the author that led me to her journal, etc. etc.

That fic was this one, which is basically THE codependent MWPP+Lily fic. Oh, and it's hot, too.

Okay, I could go on for a lot longer but I've embarrassed myself enough. I need to not post at 2am in the morning when I was at work all day and I'm feeling manic. :((

So I started writing fic about the Dumbledore brothers in my head at work on Thursday. Centered around Aberforth and the Aberforth and Albus relationship. I have bits of a couple of scenes jotted down, as well as having figured out some other things. I have a list of questions that I would like to answer about them, at least in my own head, if not in fic.

It started out as, "What fic would I like to read most right now?" and turned into, "I need to write this fic now." :D:

Why do I always have to have weird, occasionally disturbing gen fic ideas? Oh well.

As for the 6A/strikethrough/fandom exodus stuff, I'm not really going to talk about it, except to say that the idea of a made by fandom for fandom site with special features and all that stuff sounds pretty cool. Oh, and 6A is seriously moronic. What dumbasses.

I added a lot of stuff nobody really cares about to my userinfo. This is what happens when I'm jittery and nervous and I can't sleep.

I've found lots of good Deathly Hallows fic. Maybe I'll post some recs.

Speaking of recs, I've been meaning to go through [info]leavethesky's daily recs for Xena month and read them all! Will get to it when I have time. I'm starting my new job tomorrow. (That being why I'm nervous.)

I wasn't even this excited about Harry Potter when I was in fandom. I just want to think and talk and speculate and read and write fic all day long. Actually, discussing and reading fic counts as being in fandom for us lurkers. So I guess that makes me a Harry Potter fan again.

I have so many fic ideas just bubbling out all over the place. I also can't wait to see what other people come up with. I'm hoping there will be a popular community for post-Deathly Hallows fic that I can put on my flist, or at least that people will do masterlists.

I might actually start posting more often. I might actually start posting fic. I'm kind of insecure about my fic, but I figure if badfic writers can do it, so can I.

I'm hoping to get more of a Luna voice, though. I need to practice that.

So BSG and VM are off of hiatus. I loved BSG, and liked VM okay. I will probably watch the rest of this season of VM, but we'll see. MORE WEEVIL PLEASE.

As for other stuff, there's not a lot to say. I haven't been going out a lot lately. I did go over to a friend's and watch a few episodes of Torchwood, though. (I had never seen it before.) So there is that.

I think I'm going to watch the first episode of South of Nowhere now. So, um... ta!

In your journal, post exactly one sentence from a number of your work(s) in progress. Mention the title/genre if you like, but don't mention anything else -- this is merely to whet the general appetite for your work(s).

So I got this original fic idea that I've been working on lately, which is definitely FTW. I'm excited about it! I don't know whether I'll be able to sit this one out, but we'll see.

I've also been teaching myself to program in Python, which is working out well so far. We shall see how this one goes, as well.

BSG
So over the past couple weeks, I've watched the entirety of Battlestar Galactica. Well, okay, fine. As soon as this episode (3x08) finishes downloading I will have watched the entirety of BSG.

My very spoilery thoughts on characters under the cut )

In other news, I am really not looking forward to Veronica Mars tonight, I still haven't gotten the kitten pictures and I am still mulling over posting the Kit/Beatrice.

She is very cute. She is a tabby, and her name is Tabitha, which lololol so funny, I know.

She is rambunctious and ridiculous and just. Aww. :) I will post pictures at a later date.

It's not that I've abandoned my Sirius AU. I've just, um, taken a break to write Lemony Snicket fic. There is no god damned pastfic for the older generation on the internet.

I want Olaf/Kit, Dewey/Kit, Lemony/Beatrice, the night at the theatre, a long young!Olaf fic. Just, for the love of god, no more Baudelairecest. Booooring. Anyway, clearly the answer is I need to write my own. Dammit.

Mabel out.
